How is Himachal Pradesh Electricity Bill Calculated?
The Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (HPERC) approves domestic DS slab tariffs. Because Himachal Pradesh generates abundant hydropower, per-unit domestic base rates are among the lowest in India. For example, if a household in Shimla, Dharamshala, Solan, or Mandi consumes 200 units with a 1 kW load (exceeding the 125 free units limit):
- First 125 units @ ₹1.55 = ₹193.75
- Remaining 75 units (126 to 200) @ ₹2.95 = ₹221.25
- Total Energy Charges: ₹415.00
- Fixed Demand Charges: 1 kW × ₹70 = ₹70.00
- Electricity Duty (4%): (₹415 + ₹70) × 4% = ₹19.40
- Meter Rent: ₹15.00
- Estimated Total Monthly Bill: ₹519.40 (Approx ₹519)
Himachal Pradesh 125 Free Units Bijli Scheme
Domestic consumers in Himachal Pradesh enjoy the 125 Units Free Power Scheme:
- All domestic households consuming up to 125 units of electricity per month receive a Zero Bill with zero energy charges, zero fixed demand charges, and waived electricity duties.
- If monthly consumption exceeds 125 units, the subsidy does not apply to the excess units and billing is calculated on standard HPERC slab rates.
